Tragic death
I'm so tired but so angry I have to try and write something tonight. Today a well respected Labour MP and mother of two from Yorkshire was stabbed, kicked and shot three times (once in the face) in the street outside her local library where she was attending her weekly constituency surgery. She died at the scene.
I'd never heard of her before as she had only recently become a member of parliament, turns out during her first year as an MP she was shown to be a decent and well liked politician and all round good person who supported allowing Syrian refugees into the country particularly to safeguard the child victims of the crisis.
Evidentially the man who killed her had a problem with that and reports say that he was linked to white supremicist web sites and shouting "Britain First!" as he attacked her.
The fact that we are having this stupid EU Referendum which has whipped up deep divisions in the UK may be a causal link. Obviously this guy is deranged but maybe this whole debate with far right wing parties spouting their warped ideology tipped him over the edge and singled her out because she opposed these beliefs.
We shouldn't even be having this referendum, we are not equipped with the information to make an intelligent decision. It was always going to become hysterical and emotional. Yesterday I thought the whole affair had become a farce with the Brexit Flotilla on the Thames which was amusing, but today nobody is laughing. We have a dead MP, an MP that was trying to do good and make a difference and bring people together. Taken by someone who was ignorant and fearful. It terrifies me that he could be the tip of the iceberg of hateful racist people in my usually tolerant and free country.
David Cameron, you have really fucked us over calling this vote. You are too stupid and short sighted to have seen this tidal wave of hate coming and you didn't foresee that we might vote out. How irresponsible could you be?! All so you could be sure to get some UKIP votes last election and keep your backbenchers happy. You've opened a very nasty can of worms. I can only hope the death of Jo Cox wasn't in vain and we can wake up from this nightmare and vote Remain and shut those stupid Brexiters up. I am now firmly a Remainer, it's getting emotional...
