The Nightingale and the Rose
Went for an average Korean meal last night with the Mexican from work. Ended up staying out and drinking a few tinto de veranos together. Conversation didn't really flow but it was nice to be out although Madrid is pretty boring and small for nightlife. Nothing that cool going on. He convinced me to go back to his as the nightbuses home are a horror. Said I could sleep in his bed and he would go on the sofa. Felt a bit weird about it because we aren't really friends yet but l was tired and of course l wanted to meet his cat. He has a small but not too cramped apartment with a huge terrace and he only pays €600. I would definately move out if l could find something that cheap but l doubt l could. That's all bills included too. He read my tarot and it all seemed relevant. One of the cards pulled up the Oscar Wilde story The Nightingale and the Rose. It's the saddest most tragic story about love but so beautiful and sums up some conclusions l have recently made about love and loss. The old cliche better to have loved and lost even if it kills you...

"So the Nightingale pressed closer against the thorn, and the thorn touched her heart, and a fierce pang of pain shot through her. Bitter, bitter was the pain, and wilder and wilder grew her song, for she sang of the Love that is perfected by Death, of the Love that dies not in the tomb."
